What's your favorite Quentin Tarantino film?
In 1994, director and screenwriter Quentin Tarantino brought audiences one of the greatest neo-noir films of our time—”Pulp Fiction.” The film followed in the success of Tarantino’s previous crime film, “Reservoir Dogs” and delivered audiences some of the most quotable performances in cinema history. The film follows crime in Los Angeles and centers on the accounts of three main characters—Mob contract killer Vincent Vega (played by John Travolta) in part one, aging boxer Butch Coolidge (played by Bruce Willis) in part two and Vega’s partner in crime Jules Winnfield (played by Samuel L Jackson) in part three. Initially, Tarantino had cast actor Michael Madsen for the role of Vega, who’d previously played Vic Vega in “Reservoir Dogs.” However, Madsen turned down the role to appear in “Wyatt Earp” and John Travolta ultimately landed the role, which earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor.
Although she played a supporting role in the film, “Pulp Fiction” heavily promoted Uma Thurman’s character Mia Wallace in the publicity materials. Tarantino wanted Thurman for the part after their first meeting and over twenty five years later, she’s still the face of the film. Following her role in “Pulp Fiction,” Thurman became a muse of Tarantino’s, appearing in “Kill Bill: Volume 1” in 2003 and “Kill Bill: Volume 2” in 2004.
